经过近三年严格的新冠"清零"政策，近日，在罕见的全国抗议活动后，中国官员取消了大部分相关政策。大规模的核酸检测和集中隔离现已成为过往。
与政策转向同样引人注目的是中国公共卫生专家的观点转向。自 2019 年底在中国首次发现新冠病毒以来，中国政府依赖专家们传递信息，而现在，面临可能到来的巨大感染潮，他们的信誉岌岌可危。
两个月前，"清零"政策的主导者梁万年博士表示，中国"不能容忍"大规模的感染潮。而这个月，他说，"目前的病毒更加温和了。"
如果梁万年意在提出适当放松防控制度，那么另一位著名的公共卫生专家、因抗击"非典"疫情而声名鹊起的呼吸病学学家钟南山博士则就该病毒提出了完全误导性的观点。他从5 月份鼓吹中国的大规模隔离策略，到本月告诉一家官方媒体，他尚未看到任何新冠造成明显长期器官损伤的病例。

许多研究表明，新冠或导致慢性健康问题，包括心脏问题和脑损伤。
钟南山还表示，78% 感染奥密克戎变异株的患者在相当长一段时间内不会再次感染。研究表明，随着时间的推移，针对再次感染的免疫保护会急剧下降，大多数人每隔一到两年就会再次感染。

"有点像在黑暗中飞行" 近日，未经检验的抗击新冠疗法再次流行起来。一位中医内科医师，身为享有盛名的中国工程院的院士，推荐了一种未经证实的方法，即每天用冰盐水漱口。这令网上的评论者感到困惑。"用盐水漱口两年前不是被辟谣过吗？难道冰盐水有不同的效果？" 一篇博客文章这样写道。
中国西南部的一个地方政府建议用橘子皮和罗汉果泡茶以预防感染——这两种都是中药里的常见成分。钟南山博士几周前说，他还没有发现任何药物可以有效预防新冠感染。
对德克萨斯大学媒体研究和社会学副教授陈文泓来说，现在的混乱和不确定性让她想起了2020年初新冠疫情刚开始传播时的气氛，"有点像在黑暗中飞行。"

最近的一个例子是党报《环球时报》如何引用英国小报《每日邮报》中的误导性报道。该报道在没有证据的情况下暗示疫苗制造商摩德纳公司制造了新冠病毒。《环球时报》广泛引用了这篇报道，用它来攻击其他关于病毒起源的未经证实的理论，包括暗示病毒从武汉病毒研究所泄露的理论。其他较小的社交媒体帐号根据报道制作了视频，将"英国媒体"放在头条里。
